Wrist Fractures from a Car Crash

Persons involved in a car crash sometimes suffer a fracture to one or both wrists. Most wrist factures heal without difficulty.  Of course, after the cast is removed, it is common for the arm to be weak due to lack of use, therefore requiring physical therapy to restore the wrist to normal function.

However, sometimes there are lasting and long term consequences to a wrist fracture.  These can include:

—         arthritis

—         stiffness or numbness

—         deformity of the arm bones

—         weakened grip

—         chronic pain

—         swelling of the fingers and hands

—         weakness which does not resolve

Any new or worsening symptoms following recovery from a wrist fracture should promptly be reported to your physician.
